One of the great privileges of our work is getting to know the people behind the businesses. While every client has a unique story, it’s especially rewarding to work alongside those whose businesses create a lasting impact in their communities. Marcus Coleman is one of those leaders—someone whose passion for improving access to health services and supporting others is evident in everything he does.
Marcus has spent more than 15 years working across corporate environments before transitioning in 2015 into not-for-profit human services leadership. That shift was driven by a desire to contribute more directly to community impact, leading large multidisciplinary teams of health professionals across Brisbane.
In 2024, Marcus took another significant step—moving into self-employment and business ownership. He acquired two long-standing Brisbane-based clinics:
- Child’s Play Qld (Holland Park West)
- Better Life Centre (Kedron)
These clinics provide Psychology and Occupational Therapy services, including comprehensive assessments for both children and adults. Under Marcus’s leadership, the focus has been on strengthening clinical capability, supporting staff, and maintaining accessible, community-focused care across both locations.

How q4 financial has supported Marcus’s business journey
“I barely had my head above water when q4 financial came on board. Their advice and technical support has been super helpful—whenever I’ve needed help, and sometimes when I didn’t know I needed help! Risks and opportunities are given equal consideration. I feel my services are set up with flexibility for the future. Kelly, Rod and the q4 financial team have been responsive, practical and at times even entertaining, as curve balls have arrived and been swiftly dealt with.”
As his career evolved into business ownership, Marcus began working closely with q4 financial to help navigate the financial and strategic complexities of running and growing multiple clinical businesses. This support has played an important role in building clarity around structure, decision-making, and long-term flexibility as the clinics continue to grow.
With the support of his advisory team, Marcus has been able to focus more confidently on leadership, governance, and service development across both clinics and his broader commitments.
Supporting the community with big impact
Alongside his clinical leadership, Marcus continues to contribute to the not-for-profit sector. He is Chair of the Board at Swara, a disability support service in Woolloongabba, and remains a Board member at the Best Life Foundation. These roles reflect his ongoing commitment to governance, leadership, and community impact across multiple organisations.
Marcus describes this stage of his career as both rewarding and fast-moving:
“These four roles provide a lot of fulfilment, endless opportunity for self-improvement, and very few dull moments!”
A key part of his approach has been building strong internal teams and surrounding himself with trusted external advisors to support decision-making and growth.
“Gathering a team of external experts to support these services is proving a critical key to success, and sanity.”
Outside of work, Marcus prioritises time with his partner Kate and their three children, ideally outdoors and away from screens. He also enjoys mountain biking, running, and following Australian Rules Football—particularly his beloved Magpies.
Services Across the Clinics
Across both locations, Marcus and his clinical teams provide:
- Psychology services
- Occupational Therapy (OT) services
- Comprehensive assessments for children and adults
The clinics are supported by experienced clinicians focused on practical, client-centred care and long-term community outcomes.
